Privacy notice

Who we are. Folders Over Agents is responsible for the personal data described in this notice. If you have a question about your data, or you want to do any of the things set out under your rights below, email hello@foldersoveragents.com.

What we collect and why. When you ask for the kit, you give your email address in the sign-up form, and we email you a link to confirm that the address is yours. Clicking that link confirms the address, sends you the kit, and adds you to the email list; nothing is sent to you until you click it. Being on the list means we may also email you from time to time about running a business on folders and text files, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe. Our lawful basis for holding your address and emailing you is your consent, which you give by confirming and can withdraw at any time. If you reply to one of our emails, the reply sits in our mailbox and we may use what it says, without your name or address, to improve the kit; our lawful basis for that is our legitimate interest in improving what we give away. We also count visits to this site, described below, on the basis of our legitimate interest in knowing whether the page is read.

Who processes it. The sign-up form is provided by the email service Kit, at kit.com, and is placed directly on the kit page. When that page loads, your browser fetches the form from Kit, and when you submit it your address is sent straight to Kit; it does not pass through this site and this site keeps no copy of it. Kit stores the address and sends the emails. Kit is a United States company and its servers are there; the transfer is covered by the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and by the International Data Transfer Agreement in Kit's data processing addendum, a copy of which we will provide on request. In the course of showing and submitting the form, Kit receives your IP address and may set its own cookies in your browser. The site itself is hosted by Lovable.

How long. If you confirm your address, we keep it until you unsubscribe. If you never confirm it, it is held only as an unconfirmed sign-up and is removed, and it is never added to the list. After you unsubscribe we keep only a record that you asked not to be emailed, so that we do not email you again.

You can object to marketing at any time. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works in one click, with no account to create and no login. You can also simply reply and say stop. Withdrawing your consent is as easy as giving it and does not affect the kit you already have.

Your other rights. You can ask what we hold about you and for a copy of it in a form you can take elsewhere, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and ask us to stop using it while we look into a query you have raised. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. Giving us your email address is not a legal or contractual requirement; without it we cannot send the kit, and that is the only consequence. We make no automated decisions about you.

Cookies and counting

This site is hosted by Lovable. Lovable's hosting sets a small number of strictly necessary cookies on your browser so that the page is delivered and your session works, and it collects anonymous, aggregate measurements of how the pages load and how many times they are visited. These are used only to run the site and to see whether it loads well and is read; they do not identify you, set no advertising cookies, and are not shared for advertising. The sign-up form on the kit page is loaded from Kit, which may set its own cookies in your browser to run the form.

We also use Google Analytics to understand how the page is read, and it is switched off until you allow it. The first time you visit, a banner asks whether you accept; until you click accept, Google Analytics sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device for analytics. If you accept, it sets cookies in your browser, measures your visit and records which links you click, and this may also be used for advertising; you can decline, and everything on the site still works. Google is a United States company and processes this data there, a transfer covered by the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Our lawful basis for Google Analytics is your consent, given through that banner; you can withdraw it at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser, which brings the banner back.

Emails and tracking. Kit records when you open one of our emails and which links in it you click, including the button that confirms your address and delivers the kit. We use this only to see that the kit arrived and to understand which parts of the walkthrough people follow; we do not use it to build any other profile of you.
